Founded by the visionary duo Patrick and Betty Mthembu, MVP Productions has been a driving force in South African television since the early 1990s with hits like Emzini Wezinsizwa Season 1 and Vicious Cycle. Now, the legacy continues with Muzi Mthembu and his sister Phumelele Tau, graduates of Wits and Rhodes Universities, revitalizing the company.
Their groundbreaking series, Mutual Friends, topped national ratings and earned a second season. Then came African America, a film funded by NFVF, which secured a two-year exclusive license with Netflix Worldwide. The film's acclaim includes a nomination at the NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding International Motion Picture, and a Black Reel Award for Best Foreign Language Film. winning for Best Costume Design.
